Simple Advertisements
From 1920-2002, franchise values have sky rocketed. In 1920, the value of a ticket was an average of $1. In 2001, the value of a ticket grew to a price of approximately $19 dollars. As the tickets cost rose, so did almost everything else. Franchises grew in price by the millions, and so did salary. As the franchises grew by the millions, advertising was a helping hand to this cause. For instance, now a days commercials like Doritos and Coke helped baseball gain both viewers in the stadium and at home watching. Coke gained a lot of money by advertising their products on live television or on big billboards at the stadium. People, being very easily entertained by funny commercials, are more likely to buy those products after seeing those ads. While going to the stadium is both a thrill and an experience of its own, not many people think twice about buying the food/beverages there. For more information, go to the Revenue tab. Many ads are thrown around during big games like the Super Bowl and the World Series. The Super Bowl is notorious for its hilarious commercials that keep viewers watching. The World Series on the other hand has a lot of what is called, "remarketing." Every time the radio is turned on and someone hears the same commercial about depression, that product is being reinforced to the viewers. Usually when someone watches the World Series and Boston made it to the finals, people keep seeing the same Jordan's Furniture ad over and over again. Or you see commercials sponsored by Dunkin' Donuts with a Red Sox player as the spokesperson. It may be pestering, yes, but this is how baseball and football keep it sponsors and companies.
Now, why do sports still need sponsors? Sponsors widen the area on interest to the rest of America, and then some. More sponsors bring in more money. If you see more sponsors then you know they believe that sport or game will bring in the most money. The Super Bowl reaches out to hundreds of millions of Americans every year.
